How your life has changed since you came to the United States
The night was calm, as usual, no sound could be heard and everyone in my hometown was already sleeping. No one could imagine what was about to happen.
Suddenly, in the middle of the night, a fire struck. We were so confused, what was happening? Where was the fire coming from? My father went out to see if any neighbor needed help, that was the last time we saw him alive. A bullet went through his head and my mother started screaming.
Soon after, a group of white armed men came in, I tried to hide but they followed me. They grabbed me by my waist and started pulling me over to a carriage while my mother looked at me in agony. I was tied down and then sold to another cruel monster. After that, my life changed completely.
They said I would be working on a field, but they lied, I was enslaved. I was forced to get up early in the morning to work, it was a torture. They didn’t give me almost any food, so eventually, when my first winter in the US came, I got sick, pneumonia.
I thought they were taking me to the doctor, I really did. And then it happened again, a group of white men came in the middle of the night, I was dragged unwillingly to a carriage and when it stop they shoot me, just like they did to my father.
I never wanted to come to the US, it was never my decision.
