 Problems and solutions

Teenagers

Teenagers I hate them. They are the most insufferable thing in the world. From their loud music to their rudeness, they are the worst thing that could happen to Earth.

Cell phones

Cell phones Studies have brought great advances in technology, one of those advantages are cell phones. Thinking about the topic, it is unavoidable to talk about all the tools cell phones have. Thanks to apps such as Facebook or Instagram, society is able to re-encounter with friends. Furthermore, search engines such as Yahoo or Google have allowed society to access to new information and sometimes even entertainment. For instance, someone could talk about Youtube, diverse AIs, Spotify, etc. To summarize, cell phones are a useful tool that connects society.

Using e-mail

Using e-mail If you have ever used any type of e-mail app for the past few years, you know they keep getting better and better, allowing to communicate more formally without having to give much personal data. But there is more to e-mail than just sending text messages. PDFs, videos, resumes, and any type of files you can imagine can also be send via e-mail. Eventually, society is realicing that electronic mail brings a lot of tools for people and teams to use even if it is not for job reasons. For instance, you need an e-mail account in order to use almost every app or web. Furthermore, electronic mail companies are comming up with new services such as editing documents or videocalling.

A big mistake you once made

A big mistake you once made Nowadays in Spain, people like to give presents to their loved ones as a symbol of love, specially at Holidays or birthday parties.  I usually do that, in fact, I love taking my time to come up with the best present possible. However, last year, during quarentine, I completely forgot to make something for my mother. She did not mind, of course, she said it was understandable considering the circumstances; nevertheless, I could not help it but feel guilty. That is why, this year, I am preparing an advent calendar for her.

The working student

The working student  There is no doubt that one of the main problems of this era's society is how procrastination suffer from anxiety and stress, which makes them procrastinate.  The reason for this is that youngsters do not feel motivated to be a working student. As Sir Ken Robinson once said, youth's lack of interest comes from society killing children's creativity.  The majority of students have never considered taking up a degree they enjoy, meaning they do not like the degree they choose and feel unmotivated. Studies have shown the best way to solve this is by emphasizing the importance of all careers. For instance, a great method to solve the lack of working students would be to advertise different career paths. On the other hand, scholarships would also be a great option. That is why the importance of all careers should be emphasized. To sum up, there are no working students due to the lack of motivation.

An important story in the news

An important story in the news According to the article “The manhunt of Brian Laundre is over. But several big questions remain” by the CNN International, after the corpse of the 22 year old woman Gabby Petito was found in a national forest in Florida and her fiancée was believed to have returned home after a Summer road trip to without her, making him the main suspect. However, soon after, his skeletal remains were found in the Carlton reserve and more questions started to rise. The strongest theory is that he took his own life a few days after killing Gabby, this is because of the encounter of his diary and two credit cards he used after his disappearance.

Practice 9: Analyzing a TED talk

Analyzing a TED talk What’s the topic of the TED talk? What’s the main idea? When does the speaker introduce the idea? How? What are the means of support used by the speaker to convince us that his opinion is right? Provide examples Whats the speakers conclusion? How does he conclude? The topic of the TED talk is children’s creativity, being the main idea how the school system negatively affects to it. He introduces the idea during the first few minutes of his speech, after a joke, by saying that society is educating children for a future that is unknown. The speaker uses examples, quotations or personal experiences to prove his point. For instance, he talks about a school play in which his son took part and soon after he quotes the UNESCO. His conclusion is that humanity has started treating the concept of a 'bright mind' as it treats natural resources, which will bring bad consecuences for the future. He concludes by talking about what TED talks is. Opinion paragraph Ken Robi...

American customs you like/dislike

American customs you like/dislike Halloween is just around the corner and I'm really looking forward to it, it's my favourite American custom after all. The candy, the costumes, the films... I love it all! Even the rainy weather that Halloween always seems to summon.  On the other hand, I despise Thanksgiving Day. Even though I love family dinners, I find reuniting to celebrate the genocide of inocent families kind of messed up. I mean, why would you celebrate something so cruel? That's not ok!  Anyway, I don't really mind American customs, but I do admit that I love Halloween.

The people I live with

The people I live with Since I moved to Murcia, I've been living with my aunt and her cat.  My aunt  is a single 52 years old woman with a theatre major that runs her own Airbnb. She has accomplished many achievements. For instance, one of her books was turned into a theatre play, and she eventually signed a contract to work at Vigo's university, although she got fired two years ago. Furthermore, even though she got a divorce, she still managed to raise a wonderful child and create a stable home for him to grow in. My aunt has a very youthful appearance. The main reason she looks so young is because of her heigh. However, her slender waist, upturned nose and huge sense in style also take part in her appearance.

Being on time

Being on time This Summer I started getting into true crime documentaries. They are really interesting, perhaps a little bit graphic, however, it surely does draw anyone's attention.  The thing is, the more documentaries I watch, the more I realize a lot of murder cases would have been avoided if people were on time. Not only the police, but also family members, co-workers and, sometimes, even the victim. A perfect example of this is the murder of Jane Clough. Jane was an 26 year old nurse working at the Blackpool's Victoria Hospital when she was murdered. She was late to work only by a few minutes and everyone was already inside. Her exhusband and abuser, Jonathan Bass, was following Jane and took advantage of  the situation. In a matter of minutes, Jane Clough was stabbed 71 times. Perhaps, if someone waited for her or if she had been in time for work, she would be alive today. References: https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/politics/jane-clough-keir-starmer-speech-2171...

An accident

An accident I didn't do it. No, not on purpose. I was working at her house; cleaning her room, making sure she had her TV on, everything I always do. How would have I guessed those weren't her usual pills? Both were white! And I dind't even know she had rat poison in the same cabinet! I'm sure that stupid grandma did it on purpose, to ruin my life, you have to believe me! She was pure evil! She knew my fingerprints would be all over her house and that all the fingers would be pointed at me, that woman was friends with the devil.  Besides, why would I do it? It's the only job opportunity I had, without her I have nothing!  Please, I swear. Believe me, it was only an accident.

As the article “MTV says Budapest EMAs to show solidarity with LGBTQ+ community” by Reuters says, the MTV entertainment group does not have plans to change the location in order to support the LGBTQ+ community in Hungary. A sport you like to play or watch

A sport you like to play or watch As I said in my last post,  my favourite sport is roller skating. However, when it comes to the sport I like to watch the most, that would be figure skating. I have gone ice skating before and, even with a lot of experience, I find it really difficult. The ice makes it very hard to move and the tiniest malfunction in your skates could cause a terrible accident. Nevertheless, figure skaters avoid all this difficulties to then deliver emotional performances. That’s the main reason I enjoy watching ice skating performances.

Learning to play a sport

Learning to play a sport In today’s era, society is realizing more and more that, in order to stay healthy, doing or playing any kind of sport is a must. However, it is hard to maintain a routine, specially when you are learning a new sport. Nowadays, students do not have much time for their own so taking part on a skating course is almost impossible. However, skating is so easy that it does not require a personal trainer or being part of a local team, making it easier to do at least an hour a day without having to change much your timetable. Despite this, being consistent can be hard for many that is why methods to avoid procrastination need to be found. An example could be setting a time record each day, which activates the competitive side of the brain and can help achieving this goal. Furthermore, another great method would be skating with a person you know, such as a classmate or a family member, definitely a great way to put on some excitement in the activity. To sum up, the...

A hobby

A hobby Travelling is often seen as a way to get inspired, to disconnect from the world and to get to know other cultures. My parents have educated me into this passion of mine that is travelling, wether it is a small town near my home city or a big city like Madrid or Paris.  My family and I always do at least one or three long voyages a year, then we also do some weekend getaways when we are free. My favourite travel so far is when we visited Loudenvielle, a thermal village in the French Pyrenees.Loudenvielle is a tiny village surrounded with beautiful snow-capped mountains and a gigantic lake where you can do some kayaking, definitely a breathtaking landscape.  Some of the famous activities we did in Loudenvielle some sightseeing around the village, sleep in a traditinal inn and then, of course, Loudenville's most famous atraction, the hotsprings.

A especial skill you have

A special skill you have Since I was a child,  I have always had the ability to change. Not my physic, not my ideas, but the way I act around people. This is commonly known as changing register. However, my skill goes way beyond that. I usually like to compare it to water. You see, water has the capacity to change its form depending on where it is. Something similar happens to me, it's as if I was just a blank canvas and my personality changes to be liked. Sometimes this makes me wonder who I am.

Practice 7: Descriptive paragraph

Descriptive paragraph Brainstorming 1 Depressing, crouded, covid, empty, dark  Brainstorming 2 -Why do you feel that way? Because the picture is dark itself and it makes me remember sad moments, even if I have never been there. -How is the feeling? It is a negative feeling, horrible in fact. -How does that feeling affect you? It’s horrible, anxiety affects a person in many ways. Not only is bad itself but it also enhances some other negative feelings like loneliness or boredom -Would you feel other way if you looked at it in the future? Yes, perhaps it has to do something with maturity, what’s happening in your life right now. Paragraph Photos can make a person experience many feelings, in this case that feeling is anxiety. It is a horrible sensation of dread and shame that enhances all the problems a person has. Taking into consideration that the weather in the picture is foggy, it makes me remember the day my grandfather died. It was raining too, no one told me what was hap...

How your life has changed since you came to the United States

How your life has changed since you came to the United States The night was calm, as usual, no sound could be heard and everyone in my hometown was already sleeping. No one could imagine what was about to happen. Suddenly, in the middle of the night, a fire struck. We were so confused, what was happening? Where was the fire coming from? My father went out to see if any neighbor needed help, that was the last time we saw him alive. A bullet went through his head and my mother started screaming.  Soon after, a group of white armed men came in, I tried to hide but they followed me. They grabbed me by my waist and started pulling me over to a carriage while my mother looked at me in agony. I was tied down and then sold to another cruel monster. After that, my life changed completely. They said I would be working on a field, but they lied, I was enslaved. I was forced to get up early in the morning to work, it was a torture. They didn’t give me almost any food, so eventually, when...
